Gangs are necessary for safety and protection.

False. Gangs are for sure not needed for protection. They often get into fights or other bad things that could actually make you less protected. They often create tension, which could lead to arguments, where it is not a safe environment. Police and other armed people are the people you should rely on for protection.
False, gangs can cause you harm. Gangs get into fights with other gangs and that could hurt or even kill you. Keeping you protected is your parents or siblings job. Gangs don't usally protect you.
True and false, its true because people who live in bad areas my join a gang for protection. But its false because in the long run gangs lead to crimes, drugs, and fights.

False, safety is now called the witness protection agency. Just kidding. If you feel like you're in intense danger, then you can call the police, hire a bodyguard, or wear a bullet-proof vest. Gangs are not necessary anymore, and usually just end up getting you in more trouble (no, I do not know from experience).
True and false. In some rougher places you made need protection in form of a gang but in safter places you do not. When you are in a gang you normally end up doing what the rest of the gang does so if they are going to do something bad then you could get in more trouble.

Johnny Cade got beat up by the socs. Did he have anyone around him? I don't think so. He needed his game. Like later in the book Ponyboy explains he goes nowhere without a member of the gang.
Now about the police. You can call the police and the bad people might get arrested. But once they get out, don't you think they will come back and get you.

Gangs are not always smoking ciggarets, drinking alchahol, and doing drugs. Some are good gangs and won't do that stuff. But if you find out your in a bad gang, then just decline the all the bad stuff that you don't want to do. If they don't like that, leave the gang and join different one. It might be a little risky but it would be worth it.
PS: This could even happen in small cities and towns too.
False. Gangs are not needed for protection. The only thing gangs will do is put in harms way. If you are in a gang you are going to were the trouble is and if you want to be protected do all the right things. Like go to school then go home do your homework don't go hang out in dangerous places.

I think that it depends on how you look at it. I think true because when someone joins a gang they want a safety protection from the big bullies. I think that it is false because some other reasons people could join a gang is because of family problems or depression. Gangs started off as helping communities, but then people started getting involved with a lot of crime, robbing banks, stealing, cheating, etc. I would say about 97% of gangs in big cities are bad. And then in smaller cities, gangs will help out the community, and trying to stop crime. Gangs are having big impacts on people's lives and crushing them. I don't think its fair if they can just beat up innocent people walking down the street. It isn't right, and most gangs just want attention. Gangs can be a big threat, or a big help.

For example both times that johnny was beaten it was by socs, who are not desperate for money, just members of a gang.
